Group 23 Review

http://citics101.blogspot.co.nz/2012/09/2-vehicles-experience-of-docking-and.html

This group of 2 had done the vehicle workshop. They explored 2 different ideas, a rocket and a lantern.

Their design had a real strong emphasis on digital manipulation. After testing their initial vehicles with seaweed paper and rice paper, models are then used to develop digital possibilities. With the aid of ArchiCAD and Photoshop, they generated a series of images to give a sense of the experience on the vehicles. Rendering is done quite well and the images looks as if the viewers are participating in the journey of travelling between two hotels.

Their Utopian vehicle system - the rocket with its departure, docking and landing facilities shows an innovative method of travelling between the two sites. As shown in the images, the material of the body of vehicle is perhaps metal. They also used transparency(glass) to highlight part of interior of the system. On the image of the rocket in the air, they delivered a real experience of flying up in the sky and looking down at Waiheke Island. The bird-eye-view background fully indicates what it is really like when you are up in the sky.

They also showed their video of how their Lantern flied with the use of fire and air. It compares and contrast with their rocket design quite well. And we think that the ideas of movement and the technical approaches are very successful within their two vehicle designs.
